What would it mean to your career, your results, and your well-being if you could influence your boss better?
Back when I worked inside big corporations, I wasn’t always skillful at influencing my bosses.
I was fortunate most of my career to have great relationships with my bosses. Then, like many people, I found myself with a new boss who inherited our team and decided that she didn’t trust any of us. I think she trusted me least of all.
For weeks, I waited for her to change while I resented the situation.
Then I figured out how to influence her–without turning into a smarmy sycophantic sell-out.
I turned the relationship around and even got her to help me get the internal job I really wanted while the company was laying off thousands of people. I suspect that if I hadn’t changed my tactics, I would have lost my job.
No matter what the quality of your relationship, and no matter who you work for, you CAN improve the relationship, your sanity, and your results.
If you can’t influence your boss, your career will stall. Or worse, you‘ll find yourself looking for a new job.
Just because your boss has positional authority doesn’t mean that you don’t have power. You just have to be intentional and skillful about how you use your influence power.
My most successful coaching clients know how to influence the boss with authenticity and good intentions.
I’d love to help you do the same.
