Joel, with 7 kids you qualify as a supreme expert (and saint) so I appreciate the comforting advice. By the way, you might notice that I posted a new version of the TAO of leadership. Due to fat fingers on my part, I created a new one instead of updating the old one. All that to say, I lost your wonderful comments to the original post. Just wanted you to know that I did not delete your comments! Be well and thanks for staying in conversation! http://brillianceinc.com/annoying-truths-take-two/

Denise, if you're good with clients, helping motivate them to find their own answers, you'll be good when you need to do it more and more with your daughter. Just keep the communication going *now* so that it's not some new activity when she's 15.

Nice to have the SCARF acronym to label something I've known was happening. I've been amazed at how being a father of 7 has made me a better business coach and mentor.

Hi Denice, I really enjoyed this post. As a parent of a teenager, I am RIGHT THERE causing her brain's danger signals to light up constantly!! It is so challenging as a parent to set up the ground rules/foundation for a kid to build their own "home" -- we want them to learn from our hard won adult wisdom. Your blog has some good suggestions for being patient with how we talk with kids (and adults) in "problem scenarios".
